Starting in Fall 2020, the library will advance its information literacy efforts in a new way. Information literacy refers to the ability to locate, evaluate, and synthesize information as a means of making decisions and analyzing evidence. Traditionally, the library’s information literacy efforts have involved in-person library instruction provided upon request by faculty. The new approach will ensure that all students receive information literacy training
Over the past months, Alliant program directors have each identified one course in their program into which information literacy instruction will be incorporated. This instruction has two components: an online, self-paced course called Proquest Research Companion; and the library instruction Alliant has traditionally provided. These two components will give students a general understanding of the concepts and skills included under the “information literacy” umbrella, as well as instruction in how to apply those skills at Alliant Library. The Alliant library instruction can be delivered online via Zoom or, once campuses eventually reopen, in person.
